Getting Started

It's about time to get this blog started and I've been suffering from severe writer's block not knowing how to begin. Today is finally the day so here goes.

Jim and I have been married for over 15 years and have 3 children. Our boys are Allen (13) and Michael (almost 10). In between these two wonderful sons is a special girl named Josi who is almost 12. Josi has Down Syndrome and has allowed her family and friends the gift of experiencing life outside of the box since day one.

Over the past year and a half, God has placed a desire in our hearts to expand our family. Over time it became evident that perhaps the door for having more biological children had been closed. God then began to speak into our hearts about adoption. But not just any type of adoption. We were definitely being pointed in the direction of adopting a little girl with Down Syndrome. After much prayer and lots of time on the Reece's Rainbow Website, http://www.reecesrainbow.com/ , we have chosen a sweet little 2yr. old from Eastern Europe. Her name will be slightly altered from Nadine to Nadia, both of which mean "hope", and we're so eager to bring her home to be part of our family.

Our adoption journey officially began a few days ago so if you care to follow along, I'd love for you to join me as I blog about the ins and outs of adopting a special needs child internationally. Thanks for joining me!!!

  1. She is so beautiful! Your story is so encouraging and exciting to me. I am so thrilled to see God at work in your lives and that you are putting His agenda, His desires ahead everything else. It will be one happy day when your daughter comes home and meets her 2 big brothers and her older sister. God is so good and I thank you for letting me be apart of this journey!

  11. Kristin- I can remember vividly when and where I was on Duke's campus the day you called me and
shared that you and Jim had found out that Josie was down-syndrome. You had such a confidence and
peace in your voice that stuck with me for days. God was working even then to bless you with multiple miracles and through your love and obedience another life has been saved with the hope of salvation. You and Jim are truly an example of lives laid down for His glory.
Looking foward to meeting your new family member. And David has already signed up to babysit. God bless you continually. Bob

  15. How awesome! We have adopted twice through RR's photolisting. I am not sure if you are adopting from Russia or Ukraine-- but if you have any questions we have done both. We are also on the journey to adopt again-- we nearly started at the same time. I must say if this is your first adoption-- you compiled your dossier in record time! We should be sending ours off to Ukraine next week-- God-willing.
