Lunch with the McDonald's and an Update

We were hoping to meet up with a few Reece's Rainbow Families while here in Kiev and today I got to meet two!  The Fritz's were standing outside of the SDA when I went there this morning in hopes of picking up my referral early. (It wasn't ready yet).  The Fritz's are adopting 4 children this time.  They already have 6 adopted children at home in Minnesota!!!

We then were able to contact the McDonald's who are here to adopt TJ (Misha).  We met them at a Ukranian Cafeteria that came highly recommended by Niko and his daughter.  We weren't sure what the food items were so we just pointed to what we thought we might like and gave it a try. Overall, I think most of us enjoyed at least half of what we ordered so it was a fun experience.

Then we made the long hike uphill back to our apartment to wait on our next visit to the SDA to pick up the paperwork we will need to visit Nadia in her orphanage.

The plan now is to take an 11:10pm train overnight to Zaporozhye (10hr. trip) and have Marina meet us in the morning. I'm not sure if we'll go directly to the hotel or to the orphanage but either way it looks like we'll be meeting Nadia tomorrow as we had hoped!!!  If you haven't already noticed, I posted a baby picture of Nadia on my sidebar that the lady at the SDA gave to me in exchange for another picture I already had of Nadia.  What a little snookie she is!!!

I hope to post pictures at some point of the amazing sights we saw in Kiev with Olena yesterday.  My modem is finally working but it uploads photos onto my blog VERY slowly so I'll probably wait until we're in our hotel in Zaporozhye for that post.  :)

Thank you for all of your very encouraging comments!  Allen and Michael have also started a blog and they'd love to hear from  you as well.  Theirs is called "The Brothers' Blog" and it's listed on my blog list so you'll be able to check to see if they've posted.

  1. What a great day it sounds like - one adventure after another! We loved Michael's blog and Taylor is trying to figure it out this morning on how to set up her account (I finally mastered this Google account thing - it was driving me up the wall for months now). Have fun in your new location and I hope you have a wonderful first few moments with Nadia - give her a big hug from the Deckerts and let her know that she has been loved for so very long by so many people. Have a great day on the train (if that is possible - at least you have your own clean and comfortable blankeys!! Love ya all!

  5. Yes, get the porridge with bananas at the Hotel restaurant! And don't skip the yogurt...especially if it is cherry! (You can always take anything up to the fridge in your room that you don't eat with breakfast...like the meat and cheese and those delicious little chocolate bar thingys.) Have a great trip! Can't wait to see your blog tomorrow!!!

  10. Oh what a gift to have that baby photo! Nadia was so precious right from the start.

I'm about to pop with excitement that you are so close to holding your daughter. And what a wonderful thing to be able to meet other RR families.

We continue to pray for your family as you travel. I'm going to have my kiddos check out the Brother's blog. How fun.

I'm a bit embarrassed that you read my ramblings about the challenges of family vacations when you are on the other side of the world about to board a 10 hour train ride. You are certainly on a grand adventure that few have the pleasure of experiencing.

Covering you in prayer all the way!

  16. So, it's about 1 am in Ukraine right now, I'm picturing you bumping along in the train, trying to get some sleep, yet not really able to because it's hot, and crammed packed, and they stop every 20 minutes, or so it seems. Plus the total excitement of what's to come....meeting your sweetie! I'll always remember those feelings, and the train....waking up in the morning knowing we were in the same place as our boy, and the anticipation...and waking up to that music that comes in your box is something I will ALWAYS remember. It was surreal. And wonderful all at the same time :) I'm getting up extra early tomorrow to check your blog!

  18. You are the consistent focus of 'night songs'; and because it is daytime for you, you immediately receive His faithful love.

The LORD will send His faithful love by day; His song will be with me in the night--a prayer to the God of my life. (Psa 42:8 HCSB)
